soooooooo this kinda sucks!! if i trailer my zuks to the gravel pit at rennie is my son going to be able to run the trails in his unit or is that all done now, i would put either plate[reg. or orv] on it! not looking to positive though by the look of it.

You may not know this, but the clubs BOD's have been real busy behind the scenes, making phones calls and doing research on this. It wasn't until a few days ago when we got to the actual truth of the matter and found someone to explain it to us. As a matter of fact we were just about ready to make a club announcement regarding Orv's and underage drivers, along with a set of rules for them and their parents.

However now that we know what the law is we, the WORE club can't allow it, much to our not agreeing to it. A 14 -16year old with proper guidance could have fun and be a active member in the club. One of the club's motto's is to comply with all local rules and laws when it comes to drivers, trucks, the land we use, and all safety features to ensure we can all have fun out on the trails. There is alot of things to concider when running a 4x4 club, with all huge diversity of drivers and rigs. Orv's and built buggies are a grey area with the club and laws are still being developed in our province and in the wore club. We are learning along with our members, to ensure our clubs growth and good name in the province.

I hope you understand the clubs position on this very sensitive matter....

It looks like your vehicle is not insured when in the hands of a 14 yearold.

ah more grey area.. what if the vehicle cannot be insured even though it is a truck. due to wheels sticking out to far, lift height. you know, things that will not pass a manitoba saftey, and otherwise make it uninsurable as a vehicle. just my 2 cents.

but if you look under regristerable if it was sold as a street legal vehicle originally and carries that ser
number then it would fall under the highway traffic act.
it is still an ORV so the highway traffic act laws (flares, height) would not apply.
typical confusing legal crap.
in short, if it was a street legal vehicle but tagged as orv, 16 and license is required.

a complete custom build tube buggy may be different as it would not be considered an originally
mfg for street use vehicle.

yES THAT plus what about a built tube buggy...      Nope a modd'd truck still falls under the same law...

I was thinking about those things just a few mins. ago. I'll send this guy a fax and ask about that as well....  &^*%fu*^&

After a 35 min. phone call with MPIC, I got some answers we have been looking for. The way the law states when addressing under age drivers and ORV's is very simple.

If the vehicle they wish to drive can be insured "Under The Drivers and Vehicles Act" (normal MPIC insurance) then the rules change as far as who can operate the Orv. In the case of a Truck, SUV, Motorcycle etc. even though it carries ORV plates the driver must be a min. of 16 years of age and hold a valid drivers licence.

If the ORV is a quad, trike etc. and can't be insured "Under The Drivers and Vehicles Act" (normal MPIC insurance)  then a under any age driver may operate the ORV, without a driver licence, with a parent or guardian in sight.

If anyone wants to clarify the wording or hear it for themselves I do have a contact name and number...

Lets not put the cart in front of the horse just yet. That was just one piece of information we found. And like I said if you read 3 different sets of rules and regulations you get 3 different answers. Hopefully Moose can have time early this week to make a few phone calls and help us clear up this topic once and for all.

Also it might be a good idea if you have the time is make a phone call to mpic and see what they tell you, judging from all the different pieces of info out there I bet they don't even know.... Funny just to funny

I wouldn't go changing any insurance yet though, just in case....
